Today I Choose

“Healing trauma from the body on up with Meg Tobin”

Meg Tobin, LMHC

Currently not accepting new clients

Hello!  I am so glad you are here! It is a big step to ask for help, and you are in the right place! I come from a true place of knowing and understanding clients’ pain and struggle. I have walked my own road and have found hope, joy, and meaning along the way.  My hope is that you leave our first session feeling a glimmer of hope that your life can and will become more full of ease and peace. My goal is to help you live your life deliberately and consciously, with the capacity to manage “all the things.”

Area of Focus

PTSD and Dissociation ~ Whether from sexual abuse or other life traumas, I offer focused trauma-informed treatment that goes beyond talk therapy. I utilize EFT Tapping, Brainspotting, EMDR, Psychodrama, and other body-centered modalities to finally clear trauma from your body.

Grief and Loss ~ While I certainly work with loss through death, my belief is that we all have grief to feel and release through our everyday experiences of little losses that add up.  If you have experienced loss of relationships, jobs, independence, or cumulative loss of self, I am here to help you make sense of it.

My Approach

I offer retreats, workshops, online classes, and individual or group psychotherapy to encourage conscious connection on all levels of your being – physical, emotional, and spiritual. As a trauma-informed therapist, my philosophy is heart-centered and spirit-filled, providing a safe place for exploration of all feelings and experiences, whatever they may be.

I begin where you are, with the truth that within each person lies a pure center. It is your whole, unchanging, perfect, divine, connected core just waiting to be remembered and honored. I support your journey of self-rediscovery and honor your inner wisdom. In other words, I trust that you know what you need to heal and my job is to shine a light in the dark places and create conditions for you to do that healing.

I utilize art, movement, and drama to bypass the judgy brain and bring you closer to your deepest self. I create space to explore emotion in a safe and healing way. It is critical to me to keep you emotionally safe at all times in a session and to teach you tools to maintain that safety between sessions.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the States of Connecticut, Florida, New York and Vermont. I earned my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a focus in Expressive Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. I have presented to human service agencies, at conferences and been a trainer for group facilitators in the areas of eating disorders, grief, and trauma. I have long been involved with theater for change, co-directing a Syracuse performance of the national play Birth by Karen Brody, and co-wrote and directed the Reflections Project (educational theater about eating disorders) with a cast who performed throughout Boston, MA, Burlington, VT, New Haven, CT, and Central New York.

My Ideal Client

My ideal client has worked in traditional talk therapy and has realized that there is more to healing than talking about it. You are open to new ideas and curious about your own life experience and how it informs your world today. You are willing and wanting your life to be more grounded, your relationships to be calmer and more connected, and your heart to be at peace. You are a survivor and are moving into thriving!

Personal Information

I am a mom of 4 TEENAGERS and I LOVE it!! They are my why in everything.  My husband and I have raised them in rural Central New York – though one or two would love to live in the city!  We play cards and board games after dinner and I am definitely the most competitive of the lot! People describe me as patient, kind and open. I love my friends and family fiercely and invest a lot of time in relationships.  I do love to socialize and have a real heart-to-heart over a cuppa tea. I have a creative spirit and put my all into the present moment whenever possible.  I love understanding how people tick and could people watch for hours in any city. I am most at home near or in saltwater, around trees, and in the snow. I utilized EFT Tapping daily in my own life and I try my best to walk the walk.
