Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit

Hi there! I am so happy you have made your way here. I know how difficult it can be to ask for help, but you have already come so far. Working with you to overcome life’s challenges and to help you live the life you dream of is an honor. My goal is to work with you to better cope with the obstacles you are experiencing to live a healthy and fulfilled life. You are not alone. I see you, I hear you, and I am ready to help you.

Area of Focus

Anxiety ~ Social anxiety, generalized anxiety, health anxiety, panic attacks. I utilize mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral therapy to help clients handle feelings of stress and anxiety. Anxiety can often make you feel like you have no control of your body. My goal is to help you regain that sense of control during anxiety-provoking situations.

Life Changes/Transitions ~ New job, moving, college and more. Change is hard for many of us, as humans are creatures of habit. We can work through these changes together to help you feel more comfortable and embrace new beginnings.

Adolescents/Teens ~ Bullying, difficulties in school, peer issues. There are a lot of changes occurring during the adolescent and teen years. Working through these changes and challenges together to promote success is something I am passionate about.

Communication Issues ~ Communication can be difficult for many reasons. If you are having trouble communicating with a loved one, a co-worker, or someone else in your life, we can work together to make it easier.

My Approach

I have an eclectic approach to therapy, primarily using cognitive-behavioral therapy and person-centered therapy. I believe that it is important to begin the therapeutic process where the client is at. I also like to incorporate art, mindfulness and positive psychology into sessions. The utilization of a variety of approaches will give you different tools to use to work through difficult times. Working at your pace in sessions is most important to me. After all, this is your journey. I like to focus on changing negative thought patterns into positive ones, as well as changing behaviors into ones that will help you reach your goals. I am also passionate about helping you find the positives and beauty within yourself as a person.

Qualifications

I am a graduate of Cazenovia College with a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have completed trainings in Mindfulness, play therapy, trauma-informed care, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

I am a mental health counseling limited permit under the supervision of Meg Tobin, LMHC

My Ideal Client

My ideal client is someone who is interested in using a combination of approaches in sessions. You are willing to try new things and are open-minded about new ideas. My ideal client is passionate about making changes in their life to create a healthier and more satisfying lifestyle.

Personal Information

I enjoy spending my free time with my family and friends and doing outdoor activities. Summer and fall are my favorite seasons, I love going for hikes to look at the changing leaves and going apple picking! I also love to bake. I have two cats, they are the coolest cats ever! Those who know me would describe me as energetic, kind, and empathetic. I enjoy listening to others and supporting them through all of life’s ups and downs. I also enjoy being the “sun on dark days.” I do my best to find the beauty in all situations and share that with those around me. I take part in self-care each day by doing breathing exercises, eating healthy, and journaling. I have found these three things to be life-changing, as they have helped me feel happier and healthier.
