When our busy work days demand so much of our time, attention, and energy, taking "me-time" is important but may make us feel selfish or guilty because we're not being productive. Or, sometimes we mean to engage in self-care but get swept up in our busy, stressful lives.

This is your friendly reminder to pause, check in on your well-being, and make time to engage in self-care.

The Idea of the Week

Self-care is a multidimensional and multifaceted process. This means that self-care isn’t only about our mental well-being but also our physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. In this article, you’ll learn 5 Self-care Practices for Every Area of Your Life (a 5-minute read).

Most importantly, the article shares check-in questions to help you assess these areas of your life: how you are currently feeling and what you need moving forward in an area of your life. Another important take-home message from this article is that self-care is compounded: caring for one area of your life won’t do much to improve your overall well-being if you aren’t taking care of your basic needs first.

Practice of the Week

Sometimes—or maybe most of the time—we’re overwhelmed with all the work we have to do. So, how are we supposed to make time to engage in self-care when we’re always playing catch-up on the work we need to finish?

The short, but probably seems unhelpful, answer is: we make time anyway.

The realistic and reasonable answer is to make small changes to our self-care routine that will in turn yield big results. In this 16-minute video, Rowena Tsai shares simple and practical ways to incorporate self-care into your morning, afternoon, and evening when you feel too tired, too busy, or too burnt out.

Work will always be there, and something will always crop up once we think we’ve found time for ourselves, so finding time to engage in self-care is difficult. But, instead of “finding” time, we encourage you to “make” the time. We invite you to shift into thinking about your self-care activities as a non-negotiable—because your well-being in all areas of your life is important.

❝For me, as someone who has prioritized work over personal well-being for too many years now, the way I scheduled this year was to
fit work around my non-negotiables
rather than fit my non-negotiables around work.❞
Rowena Tsai
