Booking THERAPY INTENSIVESfor February and March!

Instead of waiting for the perfect version of yourself, try to consciously enjoy being who you are now. This doesn’t mean you stop transforming or you stop growing. After all, you can still enjoy the car ride while heading toward your long-awaited destination.

The Idea of the Week

In this 18-minute video, Shimon Davis on YouTube discusses How to Build Self-Esteem and Self-Love through his own journey to self-love and demonstrates an exercise of talking lovingly to himself.

Shimon related the steps on his self-love journey were akin to befriending himself. When you make friends with someone, you first get to know them—who they are and what their experiences were before you met. So get to know yourself.

Once you know someone, they start showing up for you by following through on commitments with you, turning up to support you, or bringing you snacks. They take care of you, and you take care of them. So, start showing up for yourself. Start taking care of yourself.

Throughout your friendship, you experience with them. You have a deep connection with them, and you hold fond memories with them. Do the same with yourself: go on experiences with yourself, create memories with yourself, and continue to be curious about yourself, to learn more about your parts.

The Practice of the Week

Self-love can be hard, though. What do you do when self-love doesn’t feel fathomable? Here, we can borrow a concept from Body Neutrality (as opposed to Body Positivity; a 9-minute article from Verywell Mind).

Before we can say “I love my body,” start with “My body gets me from place to place” or “These arms hold my loved ones when they are sad.”

If “I am worthy. I am valuable” is difficult, start with “I’m the one who feeds my pet in the morning,” or “I’m the one who makes a home-cooked meal for my family,” or “I’m the one who directed this stranger to the place they were looking for.”

Try out this beginner 5-minute loving kindness meditation on YouTube. Loving kindness meditations invite self-compassion and give you the space to tap into your sense of awareness, a loving awareness of yourself.
