for November and December!

Creativity is not only art, expression, and stories; creativity is also problem-solving, new original ideas, and thinking outside the box. But, sometimes, we fall into the misbelief that because we are not good at painting, sculpting, or writing, we must not be good at creativity.

While we value creativity across history and cultures, we sometimes find it hard to value our own creativity in the present moment. It leads our creativity to shut down, and we get stuck.

Whether you're stuck in a creative rut, feel uninspired, or don't know how to let your creativity manifest, let's problem-solve our difficulties and foster our creativity.

The Idea of the Week

Do you feel your creativity rumbling around in your head but find it difficult to manifest it in any media? Or, maybe you develop an okay routine for a while, but it inevitably peters out, and you lose patience with your practice? In a 34-minute video, Dr. K from HealthyGamerGG examines Why You Can’t Turn Your Creativity Into ANYTHING

For those who have ADHD, you may find yourself starting projects but having difficulty finishing them. People may say that ADHD makes you more creative, but does it? In this 8-minute video, Jess from How to ADHD explores creativity in ADHD and how we can use creativity.

Practice of the Week

How do we foster creativity? Psych2Go shares 10 tips to be creative in this 5-minute video

  1. Expose yourself to art. Integrate art into your life and reflect on it. Find the art that inspires you or that you wish to emulate. Note what you like about it, so you can bring it out in your own art.
  2. Ask questions. Ask “What if…” or “Why…” Engage in your curiosity.
  3. Work with your productivity. Contemplate your routine. Is this the routine that is effective for you? If you find you don’t have a lot of energy right after work, but you have energy in the morning, then make space for yourself in the morning to work with your creativity.
  4. Express ideas. Express your ideas and withhold your judgment and inner critic when you engage with them. You may limit your expression and idea generation if you immediately judge them. At this point in the process, let your ideas have their space.
  5. Go on adventures. Embracing different experiences gives you the space to explore and create possibilities.
  6. Observe. Observe your surroundings in your adventures and daily life. When you observe, you make space for yourself to develop and enrich your opinions and thoughts.
  7. Practice mindfulness. When you embrace your experiences, practice mindfulness. What are you experiencing? What do you feel? What do you notice around you?
  8. Embrace the risk of failing. Risk-taking may come with failure—quite a lot of failure. It may take ten failures to reach one success, but without having failed ten times, you wouldn’t have reached that success with the eleventh attempt.
  9. Daydream. Daydreaming is a way you can engage in your imagination, generating ideas that you may not otherwise give yourself permission to think about.
  10. Create. Go and create! Experiment, fail, then experiment again! Keep on creating and let yourself experience the joy and excitement of engaging in your creativity.

If we don’t have energy for ourselves throughout the day, we may not have the energy to think or act on our creativity. Find self-care strategies that rejuvenate you, reset you, and bring you energy. Rowena Tsai shares 123 self-care ideas to live more restfully, creatively, and productively (15-minute video) to get you started.
