The Idea of the Week
Do you feel bogged down by the idea of self-care because you feel like you have to do all the self-care activities every day? This 13-minute video from Rowena Tsai may be for you.
The first reminder is that you do not have to do all the self-care activities every day. Truthfully, as you know, leading a busy life, there is not enough time to fit every single activity that brings you energy into your day.
So, let’s take a different approach. Think about your wellness areas instead, such as your physical wellbeing, occupational wellbeing, spiritual or religious wellbeing, etc. Each day, you can select one activity from each wellness area, or lean into one area that you need that day. In the video above, Rowena guides you through creating a self-care toolkit so you have a ready-made list of activities for each area to choose from.
The Practice of the Week
Self-care is not always long hot baths and facial masks. Self-care does not always mean you are using products or you have to go on a week long vacation at a beautiful resort to feel motivated and energized again. Self-care is often not the beautified pictures we see on Instagram or Facebook.
Sometimes doing self-care is hard. It’s difficult to get started or to do the “right” things that give you energy and make you feel good. So, in this 10-minute video, Rowena Tsai shares 10 Practical Ways to Incorporate More Self Care and Wellness into Your Daily Life. Rowena describes each of her points below in more detail.
- Clear your surroundings for inner peace.
- Fill your space with things that inspire you.
- Add more pleasant smells to your space, like candles or diffusers (if you have a pet, please be aware of how the diffuser affects your pet).
- Wake up earlier, even if it’s 15 minutes earlier.
- Make time for skincare, washing your face after you wake up can energize you!
- Pay attention to what you eat and eat intuitively.
- Hydrate. Rowena shares different water concoctions in her video.
- Make time to stand and stretch throughout your day.
- Be intentional with how you spend your time.
- Pay it forward. Carry out small acts of kindness for someone.
Stress and anxiety are not easy to deal with every day. In fact, it can be downright exhausting. In addition to the self-care strategies to boost your energy in Rowena’s video, Emma McAdam from Therapy in a Nutshell shares 10 Daily Habits to Reduce Stress and Anxiety (a 21-minute video).
