The Idea of the Week
Is there a difference between rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation (a 5-minute read)? Yes, there is!
- Rest: Resting is a break or relief from action, exertion, or work. It is a passive state.
- Relaxation: Relaxing is doing something to ease your mind, body, and spirit from stress or tension. It is active.
- Rejuvenation: Rejuvenating is doing something to “recharge our batteries” or to energize and sustain ourselves for daily activities. It is active and a state of feeling refreshed and restored.
Practice of the Week
How do we know if we need to rest, relax, or rejuvenate?
We listen to ourselves and what our body is telling us.
- Make time to pause and look for your body’s signs of stress, tension, or other feelings.
- Practice mindfulness (a 6-minute read), so you are aware of what your body is telling you.
This article (a 3-minute read) provides a couple of activities for you to rest, relax, or rejuvenate, as outlined below.
Rest
- Take a day off from work. This means you don’t check your emails or do anything that would be expected of you when you are working.
- Sleep. Take care of your sleep hygiene and have a full, restful night’s sleep.
Relax
- Move! Take a walk, practice yoga, swim, or dance. Do something that gets your body moving.
- Meditate.
- Unwind by reading or watching a movie.
- Try one of these relaxation techniques.
Rejuvenate
- Lean into your curiosity and learn something new. While this is traditionally thought to be taking a class, there are plenty of resources online to explore your interests (YouTube is a great resource!). You may also be able to venture into your community and find a mentor willing to teach you or guide your learning.
- Meditate and cultivate mindfulness.
- Make time for effortful enjoyment. This means finding activities that feel fulfilling and making time for them.

Meditation of the Week
One of the ways we can rejuvenate ourselves is by spending time in nature. Find and recharge your energy by connecting with nature in this week’s mountain meditation.
In this 10-minute meditation, Caitlin will guide you through the seasons. Watch yourself as a mountain flows through the seasons, accept change, and remain grounded and centered.
