The Idea of the Week
Often, in our fast-paced, busy lives, we are not living in the moment: we’re ruminating on the past, planning for the future, or imagining scenarios and becoming tangled in our thoughts. Often, we are ungrounded. We can ground ourselves by being mindful of our current experiences and engaging with our senses.
This article, Grounding through the Senses, explains why paying attention to our sensory input is a powerful mental health tool and provides two mindful techniques that will help you ground through your senses. There is also this 2-minute video that demonstrates how we can activate our senses using the 5-4-3-2-1 technique.
Practice of the Week
This week, we encourage you to dive deep into your current sensory experiences.
Find activities that you enjoy, and take a moment to notice all of your sensory experiences. Here are 23 activities to get you started [article].
You can also explore all of your senses by mindfully eating during your next meal. This 2-minute video demonstrates how you can eat more mindfully.
