Booking THERAPY INTENSIVES FOR May and June!

Some comments or actions we may tend to take personally. It may feel like the other person is attacking, snubbing, dismissing, or disrespecting us. Even if we know it’s a trivial moment, we ruminate and roll the situation around in our head for days on end. In the end, we’ve spent a lot of emotional energy, and we may bottle our hurt and frustration.

This week, we’ll learn how to stop taking things personally, how to detect these situations, and how to regulate ourselves when we’re in the midst of stewing over them.

The Idea of the Week

Why do we take things personally? In this 6-minute read, Verywellmind shares the factors that may prime us to take things more personally and signs to detect when we may be taking things too personally.

In this 43-minute episode, Christine and Regina discuss projection and situations where they noticed they were projecting or being projected onto (the discussion starts at 13:20). Detecting these situations is difficult, so Christine and Regina offer that engaging in inner work and reflection will help you distinguish what is bothering you and notice when you’re projecting.

Remember that this is a process and will take practice.

Practice of the Week

This 5-minute read (or 22-minute listen) from NPR shares 4 tips to stop stewing about something you’ve taken (a little too) personally.

In this 12-minute episode, Dr. Ellen Hendrickson offers 6 tips to stop taking things personally, starting with two pragmatic approaches we can take:

  1. Deflate the power of the other person in your head
