Changes 2022
Your contract with Breathing Space does not change. And thank you for your patience in this transition.
Here are some talking points for explaining the insurance change to your clients:
- As of November 21, 2022, we will no longer be accepting insurance.
- We will honor your current financial agreement through the rest of the calendar year:
- Your co-pay, if any, will continue to be collected through December 31, 2022 as payment for services.
- You will be contacted by Jackie, our administrator to discuss what your budget will allow for continued services – or you may contact her.
- As of January 1, 2023, our financial agreement with you will change and your new fee will begin based on your conversation with Jackie.
- Please note that all clients will need to fill out a new Financial Agreement Form and add their credit card to our EHR.
- Self-Pay rates are as follows: Licensed – $155 Limited permit – $75-$125, Interns $35-$85
- We do have time-limited sliding scale and probono slots available and will work with each client to find something comfortable.
**While Jackie will be reaching out to everyone, please encourage your client to connect with Jackie as soon as possible if they feel they need one of these slots. email – info@therapycny.com or 315.516.8466
Clients may want to know why. These are the reasons you can discuss with them:
- Increased cost and complexity of billing insurance
Insurance company power to dictate your treatment (including session length, type of therapy, and number of sessions)
Excessive time spent by our administrator and clinical director in contact with insurance companies to prove treatment is needed.
The amount of access insurance companies have to your private, confidential information.
“Medical Necessity” is required for claim coverage. We must give you a mental health diagnosis that fits into insurance companies’ matrix of medical necessity, and we need to continue to justify this. Second, the illness must be causing significant functional impairment. Without these factors present, we can not continue to keep a diagnosis active, and without a diagnosis, insurance will not cover services.
You, as clinicians are not responsible for the following, I just wanted to let you know.
- Your clients will get a copy of the “Insurance Change Letter” sent by Jackie.
- “Appointment Request” form triggered from the website now makes it clear that we do not accept insurance.
- The Financial Agreement has also been updated – Jackie will work with each client on this.
- I also updated the GFE and created a new financial agreement specifically for BHG clients who want to self-pay extra sessions.
